YouTube Go lets you watch videos while monitoring your data usage.

YouTube Go is an official YouTube app from Google. It provides access to same massive library of videos the regular YouTube app does, and all of the standard YouTube features are here: search, like, subscribe, share and so forth. The way this app differs is in being designed for mobile usage and in particular with an emphasis on older networks, such as 2G and 3G.

In other words, YouTube Go is bandwidth-conscious. If you have a slow connection or one prone to interruptions, this app can help you enjoy videos without buffering and other issues. That app is very efficient at conserving data and often not with the loss of quality that you might expect.

YouTube Go is also very helpful for users dealing with a data cap. Anyone who’s had a cap knows how quickly watching videos can chew it up. The app lets you set bandwidth caps on an account-wide and a per-video basis. You’ll receive notifications when you’re about to hit a cap. The app won’t let you go over a threshold you’ve defined, and you can monitor your usage statistics for the current session or over a longer period.

At the time of review, YouTube Go is still an unreleased app. That means that while available for public consumption, it isn’t a final release. The app may be unstable particularly on certain devices. Our experience was very positive overall, and although we wouldn’t list cons due to the unfinished nature of the app, we wouldn’t have had any to discuss anyway.
